Throughout his distinguished career he held prestigious positions in various command, staff and instructional roles, culminating in the position of Principal Staff Officer to the Chief of Army Staff as Adjutant General of Pakistan Army. A role in which he provided leadership and spearheaded several important welfare initiatives and large-scale commercial projects at the Army and national level, including strategizing the development and growth of Fauji Foundation Companies and serving as the Chairman of Army Welfare Trust.

His extensive experience in Pakistan Army includes noteworthy contributions in planning and development of Defence Housing Authorities (DHAs) all over the country and supervising development and management of countrywide mega housing projects such as Askari Housing Colonies.

He also had the distinctive opportunity of making contributions in the academic domain as President National Defence University and as member of the Board of Governors of NUST, NUMS and NUTECH.

Transitioning seamlessly into civilian leadership role, Lieutenant General Anwar Ali Hyder (Retired) assumed the chairmanship of Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority (NAPHDA) and played an important role in the interim Federal Cabinet as the Caretaker Minister for Defence and Defence Production. He also served as a member of the Apex Committee of Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), where he made multifaceted contributions to national economic growth initiatives and in the process remained engaged with several public and private sector entities and multinational organizations.

His strategic prowess and commitment to excellence is complimented by his professional and academic qualifications, which include Masters in Strategic Studies from United States Army War College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania and MSc in War Studies from National Defence University, Islamabad. He is on the Board of Directors’ of FFBL, FML, FFL, PMP and AKBL. Arif by profession is an Engineer and started his professional career from Fauji Fertilizer Co (FFC). Later on in mid-1994, his services were transferred to FJFC (now FFBL) Project Team. He led the Engineering Team in carrying out improvement of the Ammonia Plant and remained in USA for a year as Ammonia Plant Lead.

In 1996 joined ICI Pakistan’s PTA Business and took over as the first local Production Manager for the PTA Business and thereafter, eventually appointed as Site Operations Manager, responsible for Operations, Maintenance, Inspection and Materials Management.

In 2007 joined Fatima Group as Project Director and led the USD 750 Million Project from ground breaking till its commissioning. This was a Green Field Project comprising of Ammonia, Urea, NP, CAN, Nitric Acid, Utilities and related facilities. It was a self-managed EPC Project. After commissioning of the Project, Arif was appointed as Director Operations. He carried out series of revamps and optimized efficiencies that included the Plants, Organizational and Systems improvement. Resultantly, the production increased from 0.8 to 1,475 Million tons per year and the bottom line improved from -PKR 2.0 Billion to +10 Billion.

He was appointed as Chief Manufacturing Officer in 2016, with full responsibility for all Three Fertilizer Manufacturing Facilities, i.e. Fatima Fertilizers Sadiqabad; Pak Arab Fertilizer Company Multan and Fatima Fertilizers Lahore (Ex Dawood Hercules) of Fatima Group.

A graduate Mechanical Engineer having experience of more than 25 years in Cement Plant Operations. He also worked at ICI’s PTA Plant as Director Manufacturing and managed various aspects of plant i.e. from Commissioning, Operations Management, Process Engineering, Project Engineering, HSE and other improvement projects. He has also been a technical advisor of Lotte for its growth strategies in Pakistan and contributed in setting up 48MW Cogen Plant at Lotte’s PTA Plant. He also held senior positions in Operation at Exxon Chemical Pakistan Ltd at their Fertilizer Plant.

He then took over the role of Chief Executive Officer of El Paso Technology Pakistan Ltd and Chief Operating Officer of Habibullah Coastal Power Company. HABIBULLAH COASTAL POWER COMPANY (HCPC) is located in Quetta, Baluchistan, HCPC operates a combined cycle gas fired power plant with a design capacity of 140 MW Gross and Net Dependable capacity of 129 MW. The plant is in operation since 1999. EL PASO TECHNOLOGY PAKISTAN LIMITED (EPTP) provides technical and managerial services to HCPC and also are the Operations and Maintenance Contractors of HCPC. EPTP also is responsible to Identify opportunities for growth in Power and Chemical sectors. This requires carrying out market studies, due diligence both financial and technical and presenting it to shareholders. He was also responsible to manage relationships with Government, regulators. Lenders and stakeholders to ensure smooth function of the business.

He also took the additional responsibility of Chief Executive Officer of Hawa Energy Limited, a 50 MW wind project. He successfully concluded the key contracts for the project and maintained liaison with regulators and relevant ministries/ government bodies to ensure timely approvals for the project to achieve FC on time. Subsequently, he oversaw the project construction to ensure it’s on cost and on time delivery.

In his previous job, he worked as Chief Operating Officer of Naveena Group’s Energy and Steel Projects. He played a leadership role to develop a green field project under the name of Naveena Steel Mills (Pvt) Ltd for a 300,000 TPA steel rebar plant at Port Qasim, Karachi. The project was completed in a record time of 20 months and has been fully commissioned. He also led the Lakeside Energy Pvt Ltd a 50 MW wind project at Jhampir, Sindh, and was responsible to achieve financial close of the project along with securing the required regulatory approvals and conclusion of EPC contracts. The project is now under construction with target completion in November 2021.

He took over as MD and CEO of Fauji Cement and Askari Cement as well as MD of Foundation Solar Energy Limited in June 2020 and is responsible to spearhead Cement portfolio of Fauji Foundation as well as the Solar Company.

He started his professional career in May 1993 joining Pak-Arab Fertilizer Ltd and in 1997 joined Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Ltd. He is amongst the pioneer engineers, who successfully constructed and commissioned FFBL Fertilizer Plant. Thereafter, he was assigned the role of Project Manager of the Coal Power Project, formally named as FFBL Power Company Limited (FPCL) in June 2014. FPCL is a non-EPC project and first of its kind in Pakistan. Despite overwhelming challenges this project was successfully completed in a record time within the budget.
